Hey look, we've been here for 2 years now! And though our productivity has waned, our enthusiasm has not. We're just increasingly busy folks. Anyway, we have a new one, called "Birds", and you can listen to it on our Monthly Double page, as usual.
And don't forget the Links. We sure don't.
December 28th, 2012
Well, we've significantly slowed down production, but we're going to try and start up our Monthly Double on a regular basis in the new year. For now, here's a song called 'Hurt Felines', and you can listen to it on the Monthly Double page.
Felines like Links, don't you?
September...15th?, 2012
So...It's been a busy summer for both of us. We have many half done songs on the go, so I think that the current goal is to finish them. I guess. So what I decided to do was completely ignore all those half done songs and write an entirely new one. It makes math references, I guess. It's called 'Irrational Man', and can be heard, among other places, at the Monthly Double page.
Also on the various pages that the Links page will bring you to.

You ever have those moments when you just want people to get lost? I'm having one right now. Hint hint. Oh wait, listen to this song first. It's called 'Leave Me Alone', and you can listen to it in the Monthly Double section.
Don't forget about the Links!
May 31st, 2012
What? This is on time? Amazing! This is a parody of an old song by a guy named Perry Como. His version is titled 'Magic Moments', and it's delightful. Our version is called 'Tragic Moments', and it...can be found on the Monthly Double page!
For further info, we have some tasty Links for you as well.

So it's late. Soon we will all be late. This song is about a certain type of animal. Surprise! It's a goat! No offense is intended. Unless you're a horrible person. In which case you're probably just offended by everything in general. The song is called 'My Favourite Goat', and can be found in the pasture, whiling away its time eating grass and being favoured. Also in the Monthly Double section.
Yadda yadda yadda Links page yadda yadda.

So. It appear we hit some kind of wormhole that jumped us ahead 2 months. Obviously this means that our missed deadlines were due to circumstances beyond our control, but we'll do our best to catch up. Ok? Ok. Well, here's one in honour of the tentative arrival of spring! Now go outside and listen to this with your special lady/man! It's over here in our Monthly Double page.
Don't forget the Links either. Speaking of which, golf courses are opening as well! Huzzah!
February 29th (!!!), 2012
So this day can only occur once every four years. Therefore we wrote lyrics covering a popular song that has to do with umbrellas, except based it on getting 'Salmonella'. What a SPECIAL DAY! :D Go to the good 'ol Monthly Double page to hear with your ears what news we be bringeth this months' end.
Jigga Jigga Jigga Links Jigga Jigga Yeah!
February 16th, 2012
Well birls and goys, here's another one for the list! This one's a cover of a new electronica artist out of London, Ontario: OVERWERK ! It's called " Buzzin' " and you should really be in a place with good speakers and dancing shoes when you listen to it, although we'll understand if you're on your phone or laptop, too... although watch you don't blow your tweeter! Go now, beautiful ones, to our Monthly Double page for SOO MUCH FUN!
We want to hear what err'body thinks of us, so let us know on Facebook, Twitter, Reverbnation, and more via our Links page!

What? It's not February 1st. What are you talking about? Anyway, this is a song in the style-ish of 80s synthpop/electro. It's called 'Electronic Wizard', and it can be heard on the Monthly Double page!
You can listen to our whole collection and check out our social media by looking at our Links page!
January 15th, 2012
Hey! We're a year old! And like any 1 year party, we're gonna get crunk! WOOOOO!!!!
Anyway. This is a song about the Mighty Ducks movies. Remember those? Those atrocities? Those cesspools of horrific acting, poor character development, and glaring plot holes? WELL GO TO HELL THOSE MOVIES WERE AMAZING!!! This song is called 'The Only Way is Conway'! Go check it out over at our Monthly Double page!
Oh yes, and our Reverb Nation page is updated with all our tracks, so head on over and check it out, as well as the rest of our Links!
December 31st, 2011
Happy New Year! To celebrate the advent of a new calendar year (and according to the Mayans, the last one), here is a song about trigonometry! It is a parody of Auld Lang Syne, and it's called 'Tan Cos Sin'. Clever, no? Well, if it isn't clever, perhaps you're simply not looking at it from the right angle. Nyuk. Anyway, go check it out on the Monthly Double page. Do it.
Check out our Links as well! If you do it before the new year, you get...um...an internet cookie from 2011. Trololol.
December 19th, 2011
So if any of you know me reasonably well, you'll know that I (Ben) will almost exclusively listen to 8-bit christmas music during the holiday season (if christmas music must be played). I have thus, in honour of my obsession, made a christmas song about the month of December (based off of the music from Earth, Wind, and Fire's hit "September", and I've called it "December".
So enjoy, share with your friends, and don't forget to tell us what you think!
Visit the Monthly Double page for the goods!
Share your thoughts with us! Think of it as your christmas present to us... We've given you 24 presents this year! Slink on over to our Links page!
December 15th, 2011
Mid December! We were going to do a Christmas song (and we still probably will), but it wasn't ready yet. So here's a song about something that is on the internet right now! It's about getting an arrow to the knee. And it's called.... "Arrow to the Knee". Original title, no? No. Anyway, go listen to it on the Monthly Double page.
As far as our other pages, go talk to our wild cat-like beast, otherwise known as our Links.
November 30th, 2011
It's the end of November! You know what that means? That's right! It's STILL NOT CHRISTMAS! Perhaps I'm crotchety beyond my years, but when I see Christmas fever start picking up steam immediately after Halloween, I get annoyed. Even December 1st is pushing it, but I'm willing to compromise. Anyway, this song is called "Not Christmas Yet", and it's about the fact that it is not Christmas yet. Listen to it over in the Monthly Double section. Be warned though, there are a few naughty words!
Are your cuffs poorly adorned? What you need are some Links!
November 15th (16th, whatever)
Well, I (Alex) worked at the Canadian Finals Rodeo this past weekend and picked up a few...mannerisms? Anyway, I felt a country song would be an appropriate use of this Monthly Double. You know, to get it out of my system. Anyway, head over to the Monthly Double page to give 'er a listen!
These ain't sausages, but they're still Links!
Oh, and while you're there, you'll notice that we have a Reverb Nation page! Not much on it just yet, but it's there!
October 31st, 2011 (Halloween!)
Oh my, what a time of the month! It's Halloween, when children everywhere are told to contradict two things their parents have been teaching them their whole lives: Go talk to strangers, and accept their candy! We have written a song in (possibly passable) French about this...holiday? Is this a holiday? Whatever, it's a fun time when get to dress up. Check out the Monthly Double page to give this one a listen! It's called "C'est L'Halloween!"
Don't forget about the Links Page either!
October 15th, 2011
Mid month, you say? Yes, I do! I'm not crazy, just a bit Skunky! This one's called "Skunked" and it sort of describes my (Ben's) experience getting skunked whilst biking to work one fine morning at 4 am! Listen while this jazzed-up, jiving Skunk gives me the straight as I tell my story! You can find this new tune on the Monthly Double page!
Check out our Links section for all your linking needs.
September 30th 2011
Goodness me! It's the end of the month! Time for a new song! This one is called "Your Mom", and before you go all 'DON'T YOU BE MAKIN' FUN OF MY MAMA!', this is making nice jokes at your mother's expense. Like 'your mom is so pleasant, I spent an entire afternoon chatting with her and drinking tea', that sort of thing. Take a listen over in the Monthly Double section!
And while we can't offer you sausage links, have a look at our interwebz links on the Links Page!
September 15th 2011
Well, this is a song about...um...accepting the way people dress? Or something? It features more wobbly mandolin work, and something about watermelons! It's called..."Watermelon song". Go check it out on the Monthly Double page!
Oh yeah, and visit our social media on our Links Page!
August 31st, 2011
Oh hi! One day late, not bad. Well, this is a reggae song about cupcakes. Cupcake is a great word. Cup and cake, joining together in flawless harmony. The 'cup' part generally implies liquid, but the cheeky creature surprises you by having a cake in the cup instead, but you're not mad, you're pleasantly tricked in to getting a small cake instead. Delightful! This song is called 'Jamaican Me Cupcakes', and can be heard on our Monthly Double page!
As always, go to our Links Page and support us! Por favor!
August 16th, 2011
So now that we, the Oat Poets, have a few friends, we've decided to make a full-blown music video with the help of our good friend Chuck Ibey (We can't thank you enough Chuck!)! You can view our video Right Here!
Let us know what you think in the comments! Also, have you ever looked at our Links Page? We've been bugging you to do it for the last 7 months. Now is the time! Enjoy, good friends of The Oat Poets!
July 31st 2011
This one is a little late due to insansely busy schedules. Anyway, we didn't really have any idea what to do for this one, so we made random noise, and a very crude rap! We've called it 'Nonsense', for obvious reasons. Listen to it on the Monthly Double page!
And yes, we still want you to look at our Links Page.
July 15th 2011
Next up, in rapid succession, is a song that started out as an amusing idea in my head, but turned in to something a little more...sentimental? Which is certainly a step in a different direction for us, given our shameless attempts (and hopefully successes) at various forms of humour. This song is called 'Sensitive Skin', and can be heard in our Monthly Double section! Oh, and did I mention that this song features me (Alex) recorded on mandolin for the first time ever? In fact, this track has zero midi-controlled instruments! Woot!
Oh yes, and look at our Links Page. Do it. I know you want to.
July 13th 2011
So, remember when we said we'd make up for our missed deadline? Well here's the proof! We're releasing TWO, I repeat, TWO tracks for mid-month this month! :D We're releasing one a couple of days before the other to let you, our valued listener, properly absorb our musical waves with a laid-back and excellent pace. This one's a parody of Sh-Boom by the Crew Cuts, we have called it "Life Could be a Dream" and it can be enjoyed Here!!
Since we're obviously awesome, you should definitely support us via all of our social media limbs via the Links Page!
June 30th 2011
Hoooo boy! It's the end June! That means we've been doing this for 6 months! Huzzah! And how else to celebrate than by writing a song about a druggie elephant?? This is called "Junk in my Trunk" and can be listened to over in the Monthly Double section!
And, as always, take a peek at our social media on our Links page!
June 15th 2011
Alright, so we missed a deadline. We'll make it up though!
So this release is another video! It's an infomercial for a product known as Ninja Pills. It outlines the numerous wonderful things they can do for you, given the right application! You can watch it on YouTube here. Head over to the Monthly Double page to just listen to the Jingle, and for more info about it!
And don't forget to look at our Links!
May 15th 2011
Oh, hi there! This time around we have another parody! You've all heard of "The Final Countdown", by Europe? Well, this track is called "The Carebear Countdown" and it's about pasta! LOL JK it's about carebears. I actually had to research (read: look at the Wikipedia article) to get some information about Carebears, since I didn't really remember too much, Anyway, head on over to the Monthly Double page to give it a listen!
And check out our social media over on the Links Page!
April 30th 2011 (AKA: May 7th 2011)
So although the project is "The Monthly Double" there'll sometimes be hiccups (like moving apartments on the same day, as Ben needed to do). This song is a representation of the lives the Oat Poets used to be a big part of before dropping the street life to make clean, honest livings in the real world. Occasionally these parts of the Poets come out in full force. This is one of those occasions. You'll find the aural pleasure on our Monthly Double page! Enjoy, let us know what you think!
Also, though in real life we wouldn't like it so much if people followed us all the time, or wrote all over our walls, it'd be swell if you followed us and wrote all over our walls in DL (digital life, for all you RL'ers) via our Links Page!
April 15th 2011
This time around we have another tribute song! The lucky recipient of the tribute is....*drum roll*... Troll 2! And the song is aptly titled (in honour of one of the more well known lines from the film) "Oh My God!" That's right, everyone's favourite Troll movie not actually about trolls! I'd been working on lyrics for this for quite some time, but until now, it had been largely on the shelf. If you haven't seen this movie, 2 things will happen. First, you will not understand much of this song, and second, you have to see the movie. Deal? Deal. To listen to the song, go to the Monthly Double page! And check the social media on our Links Page!
March 31st 2011
This edition of the Monthly Double was originally just going to be a cover of David Bowie's Suffragette City, but we decided to go with a parody instead! After some pondering, we decided to go write "Boba Fett City", in honour of the lovable bounty hunter from Star Wars.
Also, I SWEAR we'll have more videos soon!
Also also, please check out our various social media. You can find them all from our Links Page.
